CG Bumps: Fresh music from Young Thug, Vince Staples, Earl Sweatshirt, and more

Young Thug – Harambe

A heavy hitter taken from Thugger’s new album “No, My Name Is JEFFERY”, “Harambe” shows Young Thug in his most celebrated element: growling faded one-liners through layers of warbling auto-tune over dense arpeggiators and swelling sub booms.

Vince Staples ft. A$AP Rocky – Prima Donna

“Prima Donna”, taken from Vince’s new EP of the same title, pits OG drum break chops and murky sample chops against Vince’s lyrical sorcery & Rocky’s ethereal hooks to create a forward thinking banger. The whole tape def a must listen.

Earl Sweatshirt – Balance (prod. by Knxwledge)

Released as a part of the Adult Swim Single series, “Balance” is a smoky summer anthem. Knx came thru with the jazzy sample cuts and wangin’ boom bap percussion work, while Earl kept it low-key per usual, with his traditionally reserved cadence and apathetic word play stealing the show.

J Dilla – Back To The Crib Mixtape

More than a decade after his passing, a new never-before-heard mixtape made by the OG Jay Dee himself has surfaced this week. Recorded between ’99 and ’00, this mix of gems offers a peek into what Dilla was bumping in his off-time while composing his most seminal productions. STUDY UP, FAM.
