Share This Page: Nike KD 8 "4th of July" Kevin Durant has evolved as a player since his debut in the NBA 8 years ago, and with him the Nike KD silhouette has grown. The KD 7 had many innovations and saw a lot of creative colorways, but now it's time for a new chapter with the passing of a holiday. Nike is not only celebrating the 4th of July with their annual 4th of July Pack, they're also using it to debut the Nike KD 8. This sneaker was designed with Durant’s speed, fluidity, and footwork in mind. The KD 8 has a Flyweave upper paired with Flywire cables in the forefoot to lock down the foot during lateral movements, but flows with the natural motion of the foot to feel like a second skin. The KD 8 is the first basketball shoe to employ a Flyweave upper, and it is also the first basketball sneaker to use an articulated, full-length Zoom Air unit. This unit has strategically placed grooves in the forefoot and heel to naturally flex with the foot’s movement. The design of the shoe takes inspiration from the saber-toothed tiger tattoo on Kevin’s right calf. The heel design is based on the prehistoric cat’s fangs, and gives the silhouette a unique feature with deep ties to Durant’s ferocious playstyle. However, the “fangs” are functional as well, keeping KD’s foot stable on the court. The KD 8 “4th of July” gives the new line an explosive start. The upper is a mix of red, white and blue with fireworks worked into the design around the heel. This pattern displays the intricate construction of the Flyweave upper. The midsole is a Midnight Navy that separates the multicolored upper from the red Zoom Air Unit and semi-translucent red outsole. The Nike KD 8 “4th of July” will be available in stores and online on June 27 in Men’s at $180 and grade schooler’s at $135. Cop a pair for the holiday weekend and rep KD’s new kicks.
