Share This Page: Nike KD 8 "V8" Even before Durant first joked about the KD 8 silhouette, there has been buzz on the sneaker. Whereas Kobe or LeBron's line are seen as evolutions on a theme, the Kevin Durant kick line is known for always going in different directions. With the second iteration of the 8 having debuted in Nike's "4th of July" collection, it's time to see the kick come into it's own with all new colorways. On 7/11/15, The Nike KD 8 “V8” will drop on CityGear.com. These kicks feature a red hot color pallete with inspiration drawn from the cherry-red car KD bought after he was drafted. The upper is a bright red knit with black and white incorporated into the fabric for contrast. The tongue sports a scaley design and a black, textured KD logo. The sock liner, laces, and Flywire pop in the sneaker’s cherry-red. A white Swoosh is knitted into the side panel, and the midsole is cherry-red with a red, visible and full-length Zoom Air unit. The KD 8 is finished out with a semi-translucent red outsole. This sneaker was designed with Durant’s speed, fluidity, and footwork in mind. The KD 8 has a Flyweave upper paired with Flywire cables in the forefoot to lock down the foot during lateral movements, but flows with the natural motion of the foot to feel like a second skin. The KD 8 is the first basketball shoe to employ a Flyweave upper, and it is also the first basketball sneaker to use an articulated, full-length Zoom Air unit. This unit has strategically placed grooves in the forefoot and heel to naturally flex with the foot’s movement. The design of the shoe takes inspiration from the saber-toothed tiger tattoo on Kevin’s right calf. The heel design is based on the prehistoric cat’s fangs, and gives the silhouette a unique feature with deep ties to Durant’s ferocious playstyle. However, the “fangs” are functional as well, keeping KD’s foot stable on the court. The Nike KD 8 “V8” is in Men’s for $180 and grade schooler’s for $135. They will be available on July 11th in stores and online, so cop a pair of KD 8’s to give your game some teeth.
