Nike Penny Sharpie Pack

Last summer Nike released the Shooting Stars pack featuring the Foamposite One and the Lil’ Penny Posite. Now, Nike is dropping the Air Penny Sharpie Pack, one of the most famous Air Foamposite One’s that Penny wore during his career and the latest signature shoe from the Penny line, the Nike Air Penny 6.

Nike released the Air Foamposite One in 1997. During the playoffs, Penny was wearing an Orlando Magic colorway of the foamposite that had an upper that was mostly blue. The problem was that this violated the NBA’s uniform policy which stated that shoes had to be at least 50% black if they had an additional color. So instead of changing sneakers, Penny took a Sharpie to them and made them look like tiger stripes.

After coloring in his player exclusive Foamposite One’s, Penny went on to score 41 and 42 points in the next two games of the series. The Magic would eventually lose out the series to the Miami Heat, but the Sharpie foams have since become legend.

The Nike Air Foamposite One “Sharpie has a royal blue upper with black stripes, and black nubuck runs up the tongue. The sneaker has a carbon midfoot plate and is finished off with a translucent outsole. The insoles on the Foamposite One “Sharpie” feature the points from those two games against the heat on them.

The Nike Air Penny 6 has a black Megafuse constructed upper with white around the toe box and Flight sole unit. The sneaker also has hits of blue on the Nike and Penny logos, as well as the Flywire. The sneaker has a carbon midfoot plate and is finished off with a Nike Zoom Air unit for maximum cushioning.

The Penny Sharpie pack is packaged in a special box with a custom design that makes reference to the tiger stripes the shoe got after being colored in with a Sharpie. The inside of the box gives a breakdown of each sneaker.

The Air Penny Sharpie Pack drops Saturday, July 4, in stores and online. So make sure you cop yours at CityGear.com at $500.
