Brand Spotlight: New Balance

New Balance was founded in 1906 by William J. Riley, a British man who immigrated to Boston. The company originally manufactured arch supports designed to improve how shoes fit. The name “New Balance” is rumored to come from Riley’s observation that chickens, which have three toes, have perfect balance, which led to the development of a flexible arch support. New Balance didn’t start manufacturing shoes until 1960 when they introduced the Trackster, the first running shoe made with a ripple sole and the first athletic shoe to be sold in varying widths. Since then, New Balance has become synonymous with comfort. Currently, New Balance has more than 300 active players with endorsements, including St. Louis Cardinal Yadier Molina, Atlanta Brave Anthony Varvaro and tennis player Milos Raonic. Celebrities like Rihanna, Chris Brown and Ashley Tisdale have been seen sporting a pair of New Balance shoes. In addition to footwear, New Balance also manufactures athletic apparel for men and women alike.
