Designer Spotlight: Eric Avar

When it comes down to the shoe game, there are a few names that exude GOAT status. There are only a few other designers that can match the resume of Eric Avar. Every sneakerhead has --with utmost certainty-- worn one of Avar’s creations. Avar is responsible for the Nike Air Max Penny line, the Foamposite One, the Nike Kobe line, the Zoom Flight 98 “The Glove”, Nike Shake Ndestrukt and the original Hyperdunk. Avar has a knack for evolving shoe technology with his futuristic designs.

As one of the chefs of Nike’s Innovation Kitchen Avar has cooked up some of the hottest kicks of all time. His uncanny ability to constantly flip sneaker culture on its head with his unique game-changing designs is one of his discerning qualities. It's not hard to remember  “The Glove” with the zipper on the cloaked upper. While he was designing the Air Foamposite One, almost everyone at Nike said it was impossible to make. It took Daewoo’s help to perfect the light and protective shoe with the seamless carbon upper that began as a liquid. The Nike Hyperdunk introduced the world to Flywire and the Lunarlon cushioning.

Today, after more than 25 years at Nike Avar continues to advance the zeitgeist. The Nike Kobe NXT takes Flywire technology to the highest point yet. The 360 Flyknit body combined with the Lunarlon sole and React core is among the first of its kind in the sneaker world. It looks like Avar’s illustrious career won’t be slowing down any time soon.
