Sneakerhead Spotlight: 2 Chainz

Georgia rapper 2 Chainz is all about that paper, and when you are blowing up like him you must stunt. Tity Boi flexes in some exclusive and high fashion kicks, but he also gets down on some retro Jordans.

Formerly Tity Boi, 2 Chainz got his start in a group called Playaz Circle and was signed to Ludacris' label Disturbing the Peace. In 2011 he left for Def Jam Records, and was signed as a solo artist. In 2012, 2 Chainz blew up with the release of his album Based on a T.R.U. Story, and his features on other rappers songs, like Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne. While he is on demand in the rap game, 2 Chainz has also been influential in the shoe game.

Normally rocking the high-end kicks, 2 Chainz philosophy is he shouldn’t be wearing what the people watching him are wearing. He said, “When you’re up on stage you’re not supposed to look like the guy that’s looking at you.” 2 Chainz was an early adopter of the Buscemi 100MM, Givenchy, and Louis Vuitton sneakers, but he has his own high fashion collab with adidas. The 2 Chainz X adidas Top Ten Hi ‘2 Good to be T.R.U.’ comes dressed in matte black, premium leather with an alligator skin texture, and contrasting gold lace aglets and eyelets.

2 Chainz isn’t always on stage, and when he is balling he laces up in LeBrons, mainly because King James sets him up for free. When it comes to Jordans, the man knows what he likes and what he hates. Retro Jordans will always hold a special place for 2 Chainz, but he can’t get down with the fusion Jordans.

Nick Young and 2 Chainz stepped into RIF.LA during a video with GQ to check out the stores vast sneaker selection, and while they were in the store, they saw a pair of Jordan 4’s that would set you back $25K. Only 72 pairs of this sneaker, the Air Jordan 4 ‘Undefeated,’ are ultra-rare, but 2 Chainz wasn’t having it. The only way he saw that much value in a shoe is if Michael Jordan himself either wore them or had something to do with the finishing touches. Tity Boi said he would never mess up his money with a shoe like that. When he was sneaker shopping with Complex he made sure to support his boys, Drake and Kanye, by copping a pair of the Air Jordan 10 OVO and the adidas Yeezy 350 Boost ‘Moonrock’.

While 2 Chainz doesn’t wear all the latest launch shoes, he has a flashy, luxurious style that he can throw in your face. But the man has paper, and what better way to flex than wearing $900 kicks?
