Sneakerhead Spotlight: The Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns have seen some of the NBA’s greatest players from Charles Barkley and Kevin Johnson to Steve Nash and Amar’e Stoudemire, but the Suns also rock some of the greatest heat in the NBA.

Earlier this season, the Suns’ Vine highlighted a lot of players’ kicks, and Nice Kick’s Sole Access took at tour of their locker room, where equipment manager Jay Gaspar showed off some of the team’s heat. Gaspar gave a detailed breakdown of what sneakers the Phoenix players wear, and what they like.

Phoenix’s Forward PJ Tucker is a true sneakerhead, or as Gaspar says “shoe freak.” He brings his own pairs to wear during games. While the NBA demands athletes wear a certain amount of team colors on their kicks, Tucker has received a few warnings from the NBA for rocking nonconforming pairs. Tucker was dubbed “Mr. Shoe” by the Suns’ Vine, and he won Nice Kicks’ 2015 Kicks on Court Champion.

He’s been seen wearing the Nike Yeezy 2, the Supreme Air Jordan 5, multiple classic Jordans, Olympic LeBrons, Kyries, and several player exclusive pairs as well.  Gaspar pointed out he has to bring at least 4 pairs for PJ when Phoenix is on the road, while he usually only packs 2 for most players. A few of his PE pairs are actually from the 80s and 90s, and unfortunately he blew out a couple of pairs in one game in 2014.

Moving on to other Suns, Guard Devin Booker usually balls in Kobe’s signature line, but he has been known to rock his own pairs of Jordans. While Markieff Morris was recently traded to the Wizards, he did rock some fire heat at the Suns. Morris is a Foamposite man through and through so he would rock different colorways during the season. He rocked the Foamposite ‘Pink Elephant’ for breast cancer awareness, and he was reprimanded by the NBA for rock the Oregon Foams during a game.

Tyson Chandler receives PE Hyperdunks from Nike with his own logo on the tongue, and TJ Warren tends to rock Kobes and KDs. While the rest of the team reps Nike, Brandon Knight is an adidas man. He goes between several different models, but he does play in D Rose adidas from time to time. Eric Bledsoe is one of the few players Nike allows to wear LeBron’s signature sneaker. He laces up in LeBron 12 PE models, and in the LeBron Soldier 9 often on court.

The whole Suns organization seems to rock heat. During the video Jay Gaspar was laced up in a grey pair of adidas Ultra Boosts, and over the years he has collected a lot of sneakers from players including, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, and Shaq. Be sure to keep an eye on the Phoenix Suns for a glimpse at what they are hooping in on the hardwood.
